Two Carotenoids Improve Overall Skin Tone and Skin-Lightening-Improving Effects

Researchers conducted a 12-week randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial to see the effects of lutein and zeaxanthin on the skin of 50 healthy participants. All of them received either a supplement with 10 mg of lutein and 2 mg of zeaxanthin isomers or a placebo every day over the course of the study. The researchers found that both skin tone and luminance increased significantly in the group that received the supplement compared to the placebo group.
