You've probably heard the adage that when it comes to beauty, it's what's inside that matters. Well, if you're reading this newsletter, you know that's not entirely true. While inner beauty is certainly important, caring for our outward appearance is wise too.
Ironically, however, some of you may believe this adage when it comes to your skin-care products. You focus only on the ingredients, not on fancy packaging or brand names. True, choosing the best ingredients is important. But the packaging may count for more than you think. Here's why.
Many skin-care ingredients can degrade quickly once they're exposed to the light. And light exposure also can encourage bacteria growth. So while clear glass jars may look nice on your bathroom counter, they aren't the best choice.

Studies have found a clear correlation between AGE accumulation in the skin and how old people look, so keeping that accumulation low is key to looking your best. You can do this both externally and internally. Start by reducing your input: sugar and fried foods are major sources of AGEs, and you'll absorb anywhere from 10 to 30% of the AGEs you consume into your bloodstream. And antioxidants, both those you consume and those you apply topically, will help reduce the oxidation process that causes AGEs to proliferate.
Make sure you're consuming a healthy diet full of antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables (more vegetables than fruit though — you still don't want to overdo it on the sugar). Then add an extra layer of protection with a product like Vitamin C Serum. Study after study has found vitamin C to be a powerful tool in helping skin look its best, and one of the main reasons it works so well is that it fights AGEs. You may not be able to turn back the clock, but you can protect yourself from AGEing.
